Albo is a hand-carved vase, cut from a solid block of grey salt-and-pepper shamot using the kurinuki technique. The exterior carries the full record of the making — gouge marks, torn edges, the exact texture of a material that resisted and yielded in equal measure. The interior is smoothed by hand. Finished with red lava glaze.

About Ad-hoc collection

The Ad-hoc collection began not with a plan but with a block of clay and the instinct to cut. Each piece is carved from a solid mass of highly granulated shamot clay using the kurinuki technique — a Japanese method of subtraction, of finding the vessel that already exists inside the material. Nothing is added. Everything unnecessary is removed.

The collection takes its name from the Latin: for this, for now, from what is available. Imperfection is not concealed. Asymmetry is not corrected. Each piece is singular; the weight of a specific block, the resistance of a specific edge, the decision made at a specific moment that cannot be repeated.

No two pieces from the Ad-hoc collection are identical. This is not a flaw — it is the condition of the work.
